    American Municipal Power, Inc. (AMP) is a nonprofit wholesale power and services provider for more than 130 public power communities that serve about 650,000 customers across nine states.

    History

    AMP was founded in 1971 when a group of municipally owned electric systems joined forces to strengthen wholesale market buying power, gain access to transmission and enhance advocacy efforts.

    OMEA

    Formed in 1962, the Ohio Municipal Electric Association (OMEA) is the legislative liaison to 80 Ohio community-owned-and-operated municipal electric systems.

    Power Purchase Agreements

    On behalf of its Members, AMP secures long-term power purchase agreements (PPA) with power suppliers in order to secure a supply of energy at prices that will remain steady and not be subject to the volatility of the short-term market. As with other power supply projects, AMP Members have the option whether to participate in the PPAs.

    AMP Transmission

    AMP Transmission, LLC (AMPT) was formed in 2018 to improve reliability and provide transmission reliability to AMP’s Members comparable to what other transmission owners provide for their distribution affiliates.
