AMP Members Receive National Recognition for Excellence in Public Power with RP3 Designation

COLUMBUS, OH: Several American Municipal Power, Inc. (AMP) member utilities were awarded Reliable Public Power Provider (RP3) recognition from the American Public Power Association (APPA) during the association’s annual Engineering & Operations Technical Conference, which took place April 30-May 3.

The RP3 designation, which lasts for three years, recognizes public power utilities that demonstrate proficiency in four key disciplines: reliability, safety, workforce development and system improvement. Criteria include’ sound business practices and a utility-wide commitment to safe and reliable delivery of electricity.

Diamond Level

The following AMP members received 2023 RP3 Diamond Level (highest level) designation, awarded to utilities that successfully meet 98-100 percent of the RP3 program criteria:

  • Cuyahoga Falls Electric System
  • Hamilton Department of Infrastructure
  • Minster Electric Department
  • Napoleon Power & Light
  • Paducah Power System
  • Tipp City Municipal Utilities

Platinum Level

The following AMP and Delaware Municipal Electric Corporation (DEMEC) members received 2023 RP3 Platinum Level designation awarded to utilities that successfully meet 90-97 percent of the RP3 program criteria:

  • City of Columbus, Division of Power
  • City of Newark (DEMEC)
  • Hillsdale Board of Public Utilities
  • Montpelier Municipal Utilities
  • Village of Versailles Utilities
  • Westerville Electric Division

Gold Level

The following AMP and DEMEC members received 2023 RP3 Gold Level designation awarded to utilities that successfully meet 80-89 percent of the RP3 program criteria:

  • City of Marshall Electric Department
  • City of Milford Electric (DEMEC)
  • Village of Yellow Springs Electric Distribution

“These AMP members have demonstrated their dedication to system reliability, operational efficiency, and they set the standard for excellence in maintaining a superior public power utility and implementing best practices in public power while providing top-notch service to their customers,” said Michelle Palmer, AMP vice president of technical services and compliance. “AMP applauds its members’ efforts and congratulates all those who have earned this distinction.”

According to APPA, 109 public power communities were awarded RP3 designations during the conference. Nationwide, 271 public power utilities hold the RP3 designation.
