AMP’s Michigan RICE Peaking Project serves as an additional generation capacity resource and provides emergency generation through reciprocating internal combustion engines (RICE), ensuring reliability for participating Members.
About the Michigan RICE Peaking Project
The project serves the two participating AMP Member communities of Coldwater and Hillsdale and consists of 22.5 megawatts of behind-the-meter (BTM) generation distributed across three host sites.
This BTM generation project provides local generation behind a utility’s meter. AMP developed this BTM generation project to provide AMP Member communities with capacity resources in Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) as well as emergency backup generation.
AMP owns the BTM units and contracts with PowerSecure to maintain the units, which are dispatched by AMP’s Energy Control Center. Learn more about AMP’s BTM projects here.
