COLUMBUS, OHIO: American Municipal Power, Inc. (AMP) is pleased to announce that Erin Miller, AMP Vice President of Programs and Sustainability, is a recipient of the 2026 Harold Kramer-John Preston Personal Service Award.

Miller was presented with the award on June 30 during the American Public Power Association (APPA) National Conference, which took place June 26 through July 1 in Boston.

The award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions toward the APPA’s goals and enhanced its prestige.

Miller has played a key role in advancing the mission and goals of AMP, APPA and public power since she joined AMP in 2017 as Director of Energy Policy & Sustainability. She has spearheaded initiatives that strengthen organizational impact and promote environmental stewardship and innovation for AMP’s 130-plus Members. In November 2023, Miller was promoted to her current role, where she leads and helps to grow many AMP programs, including EcoSmart Choice®, Efficiency Smart®, Community Energy Savings: Smart Thermostat, Grant Services and Economic Development. She oversees projects that have strengthened resources for public power utilities and earned industry recognition.

“Erin’s passion for public power and her dedication to our Members are evident in everything she does,” said Jolene Thompson, AMP President/CEO. “This award is a testament to her leadership and the lasting impact that she continues to make for AMP, our Members and public power as a whole.”

Miller manages the AMP Member-led Focus Forward Advisory Council (FFAC) and assists Members in preparing for emerging industry trends. Under her oversight, the FFAC released a Consumer’s Guide to Rooftop Solar, a tool to help AMP Member communities provide reliable information to their electric customers; and, under her leadership, the FFAC Electric Vehicle (EV) subgroup worked with the Smart Electric Power Alliance to develop and release the Public Power EV Planning Toolkit and Guidebook. This DEED-funded project earned an Energy Innovator Award from APPA.

Miller has served for the last eight years on the APPA Smart Energy Provider Review Panel, including as chair the past two years; and she has participated in APPA’s Energy Innovation and EV working groups. She also chaired the Grid Modernization Track for the APPA Engineering & Operations Conference, helping to develop the conference programming, identify and secure speakers for the 2025 and 2026 E&O conferences, and introduce speakers and moderate sessions. In addition, Miller has spoken on several APPA webinars and at APPA conferences, and she has coordinated AMP’s responses to APPA surveys.

Miller holds a bachelor’s degree in ecology and environmental sciences from Otterbein University and has attained the designation of LEED® Green Associate from Green Business Certification Inc. She received the 2019 AMP DNA Award, an award that recognizes employees who best demonstrate the values and DNA of AMP.

APPA is the service organization for the nation’s more than 2,000 community-owned electric utilities that serve more than 55 million Americans.
