COLUMBUS, OHIO: American Municipal Power, Inc. (AMP) is pleased to announce that it has inducted John T. Courtney, PE, into the AMP Wall of Fame. Courtney is the owner of Courtney & Associates, a public power consulting firm in Findlay, Ohio, which specializes in providing professional advisory services to publicly owned utilities.

The induction ceremony took place on Wednesday at AMP headquarters.

The AMP Wall of Fame was established in 2010 to honor those who, through their dedication, have made significant contributions to AMP and public power. Plaques outlining the inductees’ contributions hang on the Wall of Fame in the AMP Board of Trustees room at AMP’s headquarters in Columbus. The AMP Wall of Fame includes the names of individuals and groups who have been honored and who have left an indelible mark on the organization.

“AMP and our Members have been fortunate to have John’s strategic guidance over the years,” said Jolene Thompson, AMP President/CEO. “It’s no exaggeration to say that the success of many AMP Member communities — and their ongoing ability to deliver cost-effective, reliable power — is in no small part due to his work. John remains very engaged and active and we look forward to continuing to work with him to support our Members.”

Courtney has played an integral role in the public power community since 1981. While he has served clients of varying sizes, Courtney has a special place in his heart for smaller systems and has long served as a vocal advocate for their unique challenges. Notably, he was responsible for the preparation of feasibility studies that led to the reestablishment of Clyde Light & Power in 1989. Over the years, he has assisted in the development of power arrangements for groups of municipalities, including for many AMP Members. Those arrangements have resulted in a more efficient use of power supply resources and fair cost allocation. Courtney has also assisted public power utilities in the negotiation of power purchase agreements for various generation projects and has testified as an expert witness concerning utility rates and other related matters before state and federal regulatory agencies.
