COLUMBUS, OH: American Municipal Power, Inc. (AMP) is pleased to announce that Edwin Porter, PE, Executive Director of Infrastructure for the City of Hamilton Department of Infrastructure, was named the 2025 Mark Crisson Leadership and Managerial Excellence Award recipient during the American Public Power Association’s (APPA) National Conference, which took place June 6-11 in New Orleans.
This award recognizes managers at any level of a public power utility, joint action agency, or state or regional association who bring their organization to new levels of excellence; lead by example; and inspire their employees and staff to improve processes services and operations.
Porter joined the City of Hamilton in 2017 as Supervising Mechanical Engineer after working for CH2M Hill, an international engineering consulting firm. In 2021, he was promoted to Executive Director of Infrastructure. In that role, he oversees the Department of Infrastructure, which includes electric, natural gas, water, wastewater and storm water, public works, engineering, and business services. The department employs about 280 staff members and has a combined annual budget of more than $215 million. Under Porter’s leadership, the department’s utility operations have earned many honors, including the APPA E.F. Scattergood System Achievement Award in 2022, APPA Diamond Level RP3 designation and APPA Certificate of Excellence in Reliability, among many other honors.
Leading with a public service mentality, Porter stresses that customers are the top priority and excels at making sure employees understand how their work fits into Hamilton’s revitalization efforts and strategic goals. Regionally and nationally, Porter actively advocates for the interests of public power and the City of Hamilton. He has served on the AMP Board of Trustees since March 2023, currently as Board Secretary, and he previously served as a Board alternate from 2021-2023. In addition, he attends APPA’s Legislative Rally and national conferences.
“We are proud of the work that Edwin does in Hamilton, on behalf of public power and its customer-owners, and of his contributions to AMP as a member of the Board of Trustees,” said Jolene Thompson, AMP President/CEO. “This award is well-deserved and recognizes Edwin’s leadership and managerial excellence.”
Porter holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati. He has previously served as the President of the Cincinnati Chapter of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers.
APPA is the service organization for the nation’s more than 2,000 community-owned electric utilities that serve more than 49 million Americans.
