What is it like working in public power? What inspired you to work in this sector?
I grew up in a family dedicated to public service, and I was taught from a young age that providing for others and supporting your community is of the utmost importance. Working in public power is rewarding because I know that I am helping to provide an essential service that powers our entire community. It is rewarding to work with and help people while being involved in helping build our community to be the best it can be.
Who in public power has inspired you? Is there another leader/mentor who inspires you? What type of leader do you aspire to be?
I have been inspired by many leaders — both in public power and other areas of public service — who exemplify a strong commitment to serving their communities and advancing progress. Throughout my life and career, I have been fortunate to learn from experienced mentors who have generously shared their knowledge, provided invaluable guidance, and encouraged my personal and professional growth. Their dedication to public power and service, along with their ability to balance operational excellence with a people-first approach, has greatly influenced the kind of leader I seek to be.
How do you approach your own professional development and career progression, and what sources do you lean on for that?
By taking advantage of every opportunity available, I strive to be as involved as possible and build meaningful connections with industry leaders. I have always and continue to lean on others with experience and expertise to help guide me in the right direction.
What accomplishments in your role in public power give you the most satisfaction or make you proud of your work?
The accomplishments that give me the most satisfaction in my role in public power are those that directly benefit the community and strengthen our local utility, even when they go unnoticed. Seeing the positive impact of infrastructure improvements, cost-saving initiatives and enhanced reliability for our customers makes me incredibly proud. None of this would be possible without the hard work and dedication of our team, whose commitment to excellence ensures that we continue to provide reliable and affordable services to those we serve.
What advice would you give to someone who is just starting their career in public power or who is looking to progress in their career?
My advice to someone looking at a career in public power is to start young — as early as you can — and take advantage of every opportunity to learn, challenge yourself and step outside your comfort zone.
