Efficiency Smart

In June 2010, American Municipal Power, Inc. (AMP) signed a contract with the Vermont Energy Investment Corporation (VEIC) to provide a wide range of energy-efficiency and implementation services for subscribing AMP members under the Efficiency Smart moniker.

Efficiency Smart is administered for American Municipal Power, Inc. (AMP) by the Vermont Energy Investment Corporation (VEIC). Efficiency Smart provides a wide range of energy efficiency and implementation services for subscribing AMP member utilities. Launched in January 2011, Efficiency Smart encourages residential and business customers to adopt cost-effective energy efficiency services and systems that provide reliable and verifiable energy savings. In addition to lowering customers’ energy bills through efficiency, Efficiency Smart provides technical resources to participating utilities, stimulates local economies, and establishes a platform for sustainable growth.

Efficiency Smart’s services include rebates for energy-efficient residential products; free removal of old, inefficient refrigerators and freezers from homes; and rebates for more than 90 energy-efficient products and services for businesses. Efficiency Smart also offers technical assistance, account management services, and customized financial incentives for large commercial and industrial customers. The initial three-year performance-based contract, valued at approximately $27 million, was designed to save participants approximately 81,000 MWh of energy by the end of 2013. AMP and VEIC have executed a second contract that will extend the operation of Efficiency Smart beyond its initial three-year term. The next service period will run from January 2014 through December 2016.

All energy savings are independently verified and guaranteed. If goals are not met, municipalities will be refunded for any guaranteed savings not delivered.
