Efficiency Smart

American Municipal Power, Inc. (AMP) offers a wide range of energy-efficiency services for subscribing AMP members through its Efficiency Smart® program. Efficiency Smart’s proven model offers AMP’s members access to professional energy efficiency services, tailored to their unique needs and executed at the local level. Since its launch in 2011, VEIC has administered Efficiency Smart on behalf of AMP.

Efficiency Smart encourages residential and business customers to participate in services and install products that provide reliable and verifiable energy savings. To date, it has served 66 AMP member utilities in Delaware, Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania.

In addition to lowering customers’ energy bills, Efficiency Smart provides technical resources to participating utilities, stimulates local economies, and serves as an economic development tool. It is the lowest cost, least-risk new power supply resource option, while also reducing exposure to market variability, potential carbon regulations, and higher transmission and capacity costs.

Efficiency Smart offers member utilities a portfolio of energy efficiency program options and price points from which to choose. Selections range from comprehensive services with energy savings performance guarantees to a la carte services that focus on delivering savings and value in specific market sectors.

Comprehensive services include rebates for energy-efficient residential products; free removal of old, inefficient refrigerators and freezers from homes; and quick and easy rebates for small to midsize businesses. Efficiency Smart also offers technical assistance, account management services, and customized financial incentives for large commercial and industrial customers.

All energy savings are independently verified and guaranteed for comprehensive program options. To date, Efficiency Smart has met all participating communities’ MWh saving guarantees and has achieved an average realization rate of 98 percent. Member utilities will be refunded for any guaranteed savings not delivered through comprehensive programs.
