AMI Program

Benefits of AMI
The Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) Program offers public power utilities an advanced metering infrastructure solution purpose built for the unique needs, objectives and complexities of municipal utility systems. Through its digital enablement platform, it lays the foundation for municipals (regardless of size) to become a “Smart City.” American Municipal Power, Inc. (AMP) partnered with Itron and IPKeys Power Partners to develop the public power industry’s leading AMI Program.

AMI Program

Presented by AMP and Hometown Connections Inc. (HCI), the Advanced Metering Program’s pioneering design provides municipal participants with a holistic solution leveraging extensive public power utility experience and partnerships with expert service providers with the goal of reducing management complexity, lowering long-term risk, improving operational and system efficiencies, and forecasting/predicting future costs of complex technology systems.

Key benefits of the Advanced Metering Program to participating municipal utility systems are reductions in implementation risk and long-term operations complexities, cost savings through joint action, the provision of Service Level performance guarantees, and the support and advocacy of a dedicated operations team.

The Advanced Metering Program information technology architecture is built according to industry best practices with an emphasis on cybersecurity that includes encryption of communications and active defense measures to detect and stop cyberthreats.

Public power utility systems utilizing the program will deploy a best of breed solution (meters, wireless network communications, applications, and systems integrations) enabling the use of and support for a wide range of innovative and advanced technologies to serve the utility’s current needs and provide a platform for future smart city initiatives.
