COLUMBUS: American Municipal Power, Inc. (AMP) inducted former Wadsworth (Ohio) Electric & Communications General Manager Gene Post to the AMP Wall of Fame this week. The Wall of Fame was established in 2010 to honor those individuals who, through their dedication, have made significant contributions to AMP and public power.

“As American Municipal Power has evolved, power supply has remained a principal focus, but the organization also focuses on ways to help member systems maintain and increase system reliability – which leads us to this year’s honoree Gene Post,” said AMP President & CEO Marc Gerken. “It is clear that Gene has been a dedicated supporter of public power and a valuable part of AMP’s efforts to assist members’ reliability efforts.”

Gene Post retired at the end of 2013 with 40 years of experience in the electric and communication industry with the City of Wadsworth. During his time in Wadsworth he held the positions of Apprentice Lineman; Journeyman Lineman; Line Crew Leader; Assistant Superintendent; Superintendent; and finally, General Manager of Wadsworth Electric & Communications.

His dedication and knowledge truly represent the high ideals of public power. Under his leadership, the utility grew, expanded and was recognized for operational excellence.

But equally important to AMP and its members is Gene’s work on the AMP Mutual Aid program. Gene served as Gold Sector Mutual Aid Coordinator for 15 years and as Chair of the Mutual Aid Committee for 10 years. As chair, Gene worked diligently in coordinating response when requests for help were received and in making sure that the program ran efficiently, including expanding the program to additional states as AMP membership grew. He has also been an excellent resource for the American Public Power Association in its efforts to coordinate programs nationally.

Former Wadsworth Director of Public Service and AMP Board Chair William Lyren was in attendance at the event. “Over my 40 years with the city, one of the best decisions I ever made was in 1974 when I offered a job to Gene Post,” Lyren said. “Luckily for me, the City of Wadsworth and this organization, he took the job.”

Current Wadsworth Director of Public Service and AMP Board member Chris Easton additionally commented, “I had the good fortune to work with Gene Post for about 10 years, in his capacity as manager of electric & communications, Gene demonstrated an outstanding work ethic, fierce loyalty to Wadsworth and public power and unmatched dedication to the customer.”
