Cleveland – Nearly 400 municipal officials and industry representatives gathered in Cleveland last week for the 2012 AMP/OMEA Annual Conference.

Conference attendees celebrated the OMEA’s 50th anniversary and heard presentations on a variety of industry and financial topics and attended annual meetings for both organizations as well as project participant meetings.

During the AMP General Membership meeting, elections were held to fill four expiring terms on the AMP Board of Trustees. The communities of Bryan, Oberlin, Orrville and Montpelier were reelected by the membership for new three-year terms on the Board. The following individuals were re-elected officers of the AMP Board, Chair: Jon Bisher, City Manager Napoleon; Vice Chair: Steve Dupee, Director Oberlin Municipal Light & Power System; Secretary: Pam Lucas, Village Manager Montpelier; Treasurer: Tracy Reimbold, Finance Director Newton Falls.

Educational/informational sessions at the annual conference included: AMP President/CEO Marc Gerken providing his perspective on the transformation of the energy industry and how this transformation has impacted AMP and its members; a panel of industry representatives discussing natural gas and energy markets; technology and trends expert Peter Leyden on the impact of U.S. and global technology trends; American Public Power Association Sr. Vice President Susan Kelly sharing an update on FERC/RTO regulatory issues; a panel of AMP staff and financial consultants discussing member credit worthiness and financial issues; a presentation on energy market purchasing from Jamie Mahne, Vice President for The Energy Authority; and updates/discussions on legislation and other timely industry issues.
